Establish a Baby Bedtime Routine
There are some things you should think about when establishing a baby bedtime routine. Remember that your baby will sleep a lot when he or she is a newborn, and that it is when he or she is hungry that will control when they wake up. The rhythm changes quite fast. There are ways to change the baby bedtime routine.
A newborn baby and up to your baby is three months old is asleep for most of the day. However, it doesn´t take a long time until they´re awake for a longer period of time. It is when your baby is hungry that controls what times your baby is a wake and when he or she is asleep.
Don´t expect to get as much sleep as you´re used to when you have a new born baby. You will have to get used to a new life as a parent and adjust to your baby´s daily rhythm.
You can get your baby to fall asleep by playing with them, or you can cradle him or her in your arms, or in a baby cradle. Your baby will think that your voice is soothing, so by talking to him or her you will make your baby feel safe and calm. This can help your baby fall asleep.
In order to get a baby bedtime routine you should start having fixed times for when it´s time for your baby to sleep. This time is usually somewhere between 19:00-20:30. Just keep in mind that babies are very curious and can be interested in something going on around them.
A good baby bedtime routine is to take your baby into the nursery and stay with your baby until he or she falls asleep. You can also try keeping the volume down on the TV, or talk in hushed voices. It might be a good idea to lower the lights in the room.
When your baby grows older, the sleeping routines will be a little more irregular. He or she will wake up hungry in the middle of the night, or your baby might need a diaper change. A way to assure that your baby doesn´t wake up hungry in the middle of the night is to make sure he or she eats enough during the day. This will start to be possible when your baby is about six months old, and you will also get a better baby bedtime routine.
If you want to try to get your baby to fall asleep, there are a few things you can try.
– Put your baby down in the crib and caress their head and back – If your baby starts to cry, wait a few minutes before you go into the nursery as they might settle again. Lightly touch your baby´s head to let them you know you are there. – Let your baby fall asleep in your lap and then go and put your baby in their crib.
These things might not work for everyone, try different things until you figure out what works for you and your baby. To get a good baby bedtime routine, make sure to keep the same times every day and that your baby sleeps a lot.
